Fernando Mier-Hicks holds a MS and PhD in Aerospace engineering from MIT. During his graduate studies, he developed a new type of characterization testbed for electric micro-thrusters and was involved on two CubeSat missions.
Fernando joined JPL’s Robotic Actuation and Sensing group in 2017. He is the cognizant engineer of the Ground Support Equipment used on the Sampling and Caching System of Mars 2020. He also developed the gravity offload system for Mars helicopter. Currently he is training as a Rover Planner for Mars Science Laboratory.
