Biography

In the Summer of 2015, Alessandro began working at JPL as a visiting student from the Polytechnic University of Turin in Italy. For his Master’s thesis in Mechatronic Engineering, Alessandro designed the brushless motor controller of PUFFER (Pop-Up Flat Folding Explorer Robot). After obtaining his Master’s degree in the Spring of 2016, Alessandro returned to JPL to develop the technology of PUFFER to its current state. He is currently working on the Mars 2020 - Sampling & Caching Subsystem AEGSE.

His research interests include flexible origami-inspired robots, rapid prototyping techniques, motor control and energy harvesting solutions.
