DSENDS for JSC COMPASS

Graphical representation of an operations simulation of the proposed Multi Mission Space Exploration Vehicle (MMSEV).

COMPASS (Core Operations, Mission Planning, and Analysis Spacecraft Simulation), funded by the NASA Johnson Space Center Flight Operations Directorate (JSC-FOD), is jointly developing the flight-dynamics simulation tool for use in Mission Operations at JSC. Following the culmination of NASA’s Space Shuttle program, JSC’s COMPASS project carried out an extensive evaluation of available options, and selected the JPL DARTS/Dshell simulation framework for the development of flight dynamics simulators for human space flight operations at the JSC.

Through the ensuing multi-year collaboration, the JPL DARTS Lab has been able to significantly improve and mature the multi-mission simulation toolkit, and the COMPASS team has developed and deployed flight operations dynamics simulators in support of projects such as the Space Launch System (SLS), Orion, the International Space Station (ISS), and others.
