Biography

Anna Boettcher is a software engineer and mathematician working in the operable robotics group at JPL. She has worked on software from embedded systems through front end and back end web application programming, control systems, and flight software. Her mathematics background spans combinatorial optimization, statistical modeling, and computational fluid dynamics. In all of those pursuits there is one central question: How can one use a computer to approximate an observation, and make an inference from that approximation?

Education

Studied discrete mathematics and received a B.S. in 2010 from Michigan Technological University. Entered the Statistics M.S. program at MTU and completed coursework, but transferred to Applied Mathematics and received an M.S. in 2014.

Professional Experience

2016-present: Robotics engineer working on control software, flight software, operations, and systems engineering at JPL
2014-2016: Software engineer working on visualizations at JPL
2012-2013: Research and implementation of high order finite volume and finite difference schemes at MTU.
2011-2012: Statistical modeling of large categorical data sets at MTU.
2011-2012: Research potential for graphical models as an extension to the Cultural Mixture Model.
